SIPRI has agreed a multi-year partnership with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) to improve the understanding of the relationship between food, security, stability and peace.
The key pillars of the collaboration include improving the evidence base of the food and security relationship; operationalizing findings in current and future programmes—particularly those in pursuit of Sustainable Development Goal 16; and development of policy that clearly articulates WFP’s contribution to sustainable peace and conflict prevention.
To launch the partnership, SIPRI and WFP hosted an event in central Stockholm, entitled ‘Hunger, food security, stability and peace’ to understand in what ways hunger is a security risk and how the challenges posed can be addressed. The discussion put David Beasley, Executive Director of WFP, in conversation with Dan Smith, Director of SIPRI, and an engaged audience. Watch the event here [74 mins].
